Captain Dale has spent over four decades navigating the seas, but these days he’s all about sharing his passion for the water with others. Holding an impressive unlimited tonnage USCG Master’s license and a wealth of certifications under his belt, he’s more than equipped to guide you on your next adventure.

Dale’s love for watersports, boating, and sailing began at a young age. By eight, he was already taking friends, neighbors, and even new acquaintances out in the family powerboat on the lakes of Fort Worth, Texas. His early experiences naturally led him to become a sailing instructor and join the Coast Guard, charting a course for a lifetime of maritime adventures. In 1984, he followed his enthusiasm for windsurfing to the Columbia Gorge, where he settled down, raised two daughters, and grew his career in the maritime world.

His journeys have taken him across the globe many times over, chasing the wind and new experiences. But in early 2024, Captain Dale turned his attention toward a new direction—creating meaningful moments on the water closer to home. It was then that he, along with his partner Mindy, launched Island Style Charters to blend his expertise with their shared vision of crafting unforgettable experiences for others while enjoying more time with family.

Mindy, co-owner and the driving force behind the scenes, plays a vital role in the business. While Captain Dale is often at the helm, Mindy manages operations, ensuring everything runs smoothly. Though she may be more involved in the day-to-day logistics, you’ll often find her at the dock or mingling with guests, bringing her warm and welcoming spirit to every interaction.

Together, Captain Dale and Mindy are raising their young son, who is already growing up surrounded by the family’s passion for the water. The entire family is excited to bring this new cruising adventure to Portland, and they can’t wait to welcome you aboard!!
